BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The fourth annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Laddie H. Lollar Scholarship Fund, Phi Delta Sigma Fraternity was called to order by chairperson R.B. Mays at Higg's Restaurant in McKenzie, TN on Friday evening, December 12, 1997 at 6:20 p.m. The meeting was opened with prayer led by Don Reeves. Those present at the meeting were Don Reeves (left early due to another meeting), Adam Davis, Michael Leslie, R.B. Mays, Bob Rutledge, Laddie Lollar (fraternity advisor) and Bobby Tuck (fraternity treasurer). It was noted by Dr. Lollar that the fraternity had recently elected Tony Headrick and Don Reeves to the Board of Trustees. John Gam and Tony Headrick were absent and excused. R.B. Mays was elected chairman and Michael Leslie was elected secretary. The minutes from our November 9, 1996 meeting were amended by changing the date of the previous year's meeting to 1995. The Board recognized Bobby Tuck as the recent recipient of a $500 Laddie H. Lollar Scholarship. This amount was completely covered by interest. Dr. Lollar presented an endowment report from the Board of Stewardship of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church which showed the scholarship corpus had reached $20,440.86 as of September 30, 1997. At the end of last year the fund was at approximately $17,823, in 1995 it was $11,382 and at the end of the 1994 year the fund was at approximately $8,500. The Board named an objective of striving for two $500 scholarships covered completely by interest for the next school year. That means the corpus will need to reach over $24,000 in the coming year. It was agreed that Bob Rutledge and Don Reeves will look for a challenge donor and R.B. will mail a letter to a select group promoting this "challenge" fundraiser. Bob Rutledge reported that he was developing fraternity cards to send notes for those contributing to the scholarship. The board expressed interest in re-designing the fraternity shield for use in publications and on the internet web pages. Adam Davis agreed to check with a graphic artist such as John Marston about getting this done. The secretary presented the fraternity directory, updated to December 1996. It was agreed that each member of the board should be sent a copy (by e-mail when possible). Dr. Lollar presented a list of brothers graduating since 1984 along with directory information on the members who are presently students at Bethel College. Dr. Lollar pointed out he will soon have a computer upgrade and e-mail access which will allow him to maintain directory records. It was agreed, per previous plans, that once the upgrade is complete, the secretary of this board will oversee the installation of the database on Dr. Lollar's computer, and the training of Dr. Lollar and the individual named by the fraternity for using the software. The secretary reported that he recently designed and published web pages for the fraternity and the board of trustees for the scholarship. They are found at http://phideltasigma.org Bobby Tuck agreed to ask the fraternity to review the site and make any suggestions for changes to the secretary of the board. The board affirmed the value of making information easily available through the internet including the bylaws, minutes, award recipients, newsletters, etc. and the importance of making the scholarship and brotherhood known. We agreed to ask the college to link the fraternity to its pages. We suggested mailing a fraternity newsletter at the beginning of March, 1998. This newsletter can be used to solicit updated fraternity directory information, list the address of the fraternity web site and present information about the "challenge" fundraiser for the scholarship. The secretary of this board will present a press release to the Bethel Beacon on this year's scholarship recipient, Bobby Tuck. As we update the directory, we will add e-mail addresses and place this information online at the fraternity's web site. E-mail addresses are known for the following board members:
We discussed a possible meeting near the end of February. Chairman Mays will notify the membership. The meeting was adjourned with prayer. Michael A. Leslie, Secretary |
